Managers Update - 9th January 2008
Coventry Alliance Division 3 - Brinklow 9 : 1 Mount Nod Highway
Report from Paul Huddlestone:-
What an amazing bounce back to form this was. On a blustery winter’s afternoon and in front of a very large home crowd, Brinklow made amends for some below par Christmas performances with a well deserved and well worked victory to maintain their promotion challenge. With a switch round of personnel up front Brinklow started the game with the experienced Dave Anderson and the return of striker Wayne Pulford. It was not so much their goal scoring which was of note on the day, but their reading of the game, awareness, and knowledge of how to bring team mates into attacking positions that much more impressed.
Against a strong wind Brinklow managed to start the game at a flyer. Lee Trainer’s turn and shot opened the scoring, shortly followed by two superbly executed Mark Bird penalties. Wayne Pulford slotted home the next before great work from Pulford and Dave Anderson put Scott Vallance clear to slot past the advancing keeper for a deserved 5-0 half time lead.
The second half started very much as the first, with Dave Anderson firing home before he and Pulford unselfishly came off to give top scorer Chris Bedder and “man mountain” Marc Woodward a chance at the Mount Nod defence. As Brinklow pressurised relentlessly more goals came, with Man of the Match Trainer and the busy Scott Vallance each completing their brace. Moving into the final period a long ball to the edge of the Mount Nod box saw Bedder control, turn, and slot past the defender and keeper, all in the same motion for a fantastic finish. In the dying minutes Brinklow switched off allowing Mount Nod a consolation goal with the centre forward beating keeper Dale Huddlestone to a long speculative ball to flick on for any one of three unmarked Mount Nod players to complete the scoring.
This week’s game is at home at Wolston Leisure Centre in the internal cup against Dunlop Reserves. Kick off is at 1.45 and all Support would be gratefully received.
