Managers Update - 18th December 2007
Coventry Alliance Division 3 - Mount Nod Highway 1 : 2 Brinklow
Report from Martin Pulford:-
Report from Paul Huddlestone:-
On a superb playing surface Brinklow dominated for large periods of time and kept their patience to take all three points by way of 2 superb individual strikes by Chris Bedder and Wayne Pulford.
The game started at a terrific pace, with Brinklow’s new look midfield of the ever improving Scott Vallance and the rock steady Micky Bullock, dominating the early exchanges. Several chances went begging as the Mount Nod keeper blocked shot after shot however no Brinklow forward could poke the rebounds home. With their keeper in such fine form the home side managed to create confusion between the two Brinklow centre halves of Mark Bird and Marc Woodward leaving their right winger a free run to square for an easy opener.
After a little chat from Coach Martin Pulford the Brinklow Defence didn’t make a single mistake afterwards. Anything that did get through being swept up by fullbacks Dave Anderson and James A’Barrow or taken cleanly by keeper Dale Huddlestone who also tipped over a magnificent top corner drive. Possession swung back into Brinklow’s favour with the experienced centre forward Pulford being blatantly pulled down by the rounded keeper for what every one on the field thought was a nailed on penalty. The referee, with his whistle to his lips, to everyone’s amazement stood motionless letting the game continue with a goal kick!
Even stranger refereeing was to come however, as after words between the Mount Nod keeper and Micky Bullock, the keeper (in open play) decided to throw the ball down on the floor and run out of his area. As the whole of the Mount Nod team put their hands on their heads in disbelief the ever alert Pulford rolled the ball into an empty net. 1-1 you would have thought? Wrong! As both sides were walking back for the centre, the referee after a chat with the goalkeeper placed the ball down for a free kick for the home side. Weird!
The second half was again played at a terrific pace but in a little more even manner. Both sides struggled to play flowing football but with the game going into the final 25 minutes two wonder goals from Brinklow changed the whole thing round. Firstly MOTM Mark Bird playing a captain’s roll at centre half broke up a Mount Nod attack. He released Simon Bullock down the Brinklow left who in turn switched play into the feet of substitute Bedder. He spun his man on the edge of the area; second touch put him on the penalty spot, third touch top corner! Minutes later, with the home side’s heads down, Pulford received the ball down the right from teenager Adam Vallance. He took one touch, looked up, and dispatched an unstoppable 30 yard effort into the other top corner to send the visitors wild and secure a well earned and very much deserved 3 points to maintain our promotion challenge.
