Rugby Advertiser Report - HERE

Brinklow 6-a-Side 2010

Dear all,

Weary limbs & tired eyes but another successful Brinklow tournament. Our 14th tournament brought us some new challenges and unfortunately our tradition of no rain gave way with three hours left on the Sunday session. However in true Brinklow club spirit we rose to the challenge and all the games were completed almost on scheduled.

This year on the Friday night we saw the reintroduction of a 'senior section' albeit an inhouse competition. This was a great success, played in the correct spirit but with the players of a 'certain age' running out of steam towards the end it was left to the 'young turks' to fight out the final.

On the pitch in the boys and girls section, trophies were hard to come by, under 11's boys coming runners up and our under 9 boys continuing there winning streak in cup competitions by winning their section on Sunday morning & oh boy did Mooney keep reminding us!

It was great to see a full and strong girls session on Sunday afternoon and the micros exhibition games were brilliant.

There was a feeling the numbers were slightly down on the Saturday, maybe due to other tournaments running on the same day but this certainly wasn't the case on Sunday as at both sessions the car parks were over flowing and the food and drink facilities had queues formed

The saying is correct, many hands make light work. Thank you to you all for all your help in the weeks / days before the weekend, set up on Friday, during the tournament and take down. Can you also pass on our thanks to all your families, friends and players parents for all their help as without it the tournament would not happen.

I look forward to seeing you all on presentation day (June 19th)

****FA Level 1 course & Refresher Cancelled****

FA Level 1 course June 27/28 and July 3/4 is cancelled.

FA Level 1 & 2 refresher training 3 July is cancelled.

Unfortunatley I have had a number of people drop out and there are no longer sufficient number for the County FA to come out and do the course. I will arrange to return the deposits that I have. Coaches will now have to make their own arrangements to attend either a full course or refresher training.

Once courses are completed can I ask that copies of certificates are forwarded to the committee for the club's records.

Brinklow Micros – Current Year 1 and Reception Children

I am sure most of you are aware that Simon & Justin have decided to leave Brinklow Football Club and ply their trade elsewhere. The committee would like to thank Simon & Justin for all their help over the past 18 months.

As a football club we are totally committed to continue a micros section (current year 1 and reception children). Training sessions will continue at Barr Lane every Saturday at 10am. Your new coach for the Micros section is Rich Farthing, a FA Level 2 coach, along with our Head Coach Dale Huddlestone and his team.

The next training session will be June 12th.  This is due to our annual 6-a-side which takes place next weekend 4th, 5th & 6th June. With regard to our six-a-side, fortunately a free session has appeared in our scheduling on the afternoon of Sunday 6th and, therefore, we will now be running a micros session consisting of 3 visiting teams and one from our micros section, run by our new micros management team.  Therefore, we are looking for 8 players to volunteer and represent the micros in this mini tournament.  Players will be treated on a first come first served basis.  In order to register your child for this team please give your details to either Tony or Dale today or email communications@brinklowfc.co.uk

Finally, we look forward to seeing you all at the Club’s presentation day on 19th June 2010, Barr Lane.

Yours Sincerely

Committee

Special Meeting called for all Managers/Parents
Venue: - 30th November 2009, 7.30pm, The Raven

Dear Parents

Hopefully you all are enjoying the season so far.

Following a recent committee meeting it has been agreed to call a ‘Special Managers / Parents Meeting’ on Monday 30th November 2009', in order to muster the troops and discuss three important subjects relating to us all and the football club.

The three subjects being discussed at this meeting will be:-

Six-a-Side - Additional volunteers required to run this year’s tournament

Presentation Day - Organising team required

Farmers Field - We have a proposal for renting some land nearby to Brinklow and we require a small team to investigate and present findings.

I am sure you are all fully aware, Brinklow FC has one of the largest junior sections in Coventry & Warwickshire, and with the help of volunteers, ensures that events like the six-a-side and presentation day happen. Our current crop of volunteers are beginning to come to the end of their tenure, mainly due to the fact their children are now not really children anymore and going off to University or College and therefore football is not the focus in the family it once was.

With this in mind we need new volunteers to step forward, ideally at least one from each age group.

Ironically with all the age groups we have registered, including youth, our six-a-side will be oversubscribed, therefore it is imperative that each age group attends the meeting to ensure it has a voice.

Our six-a-side tournament is seen as a blue ribbon event and it would be a great shame to lose it due to lack of volunteers.

Should you have any questions relating to this or any other matter relating to the football club please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours in Sport

Declan Mellett

A change of venue for the public consultation meeting.

The meeting is now to be held at The Revel School, Monks Kirby. It is still the 12th October, start time 7:00pm.

Brinklow Fire Station
Plans to shut seven fire stations and lose 100 retained firefighters in Warwickshire have now been announced. The stations at Brinklow, Kenilworth, Warwick, Bidford, Studley, Fenny Compton and Bedworth have been marked for closure, the fire service have revealed.

For those relatively new to the club, some years ago, our long serving Secretary Mick Holt was dragged from the flames of his flat by the local fire brigade. Despite being in a coma for several weeks, he has made a good recovery and has been instrumental in keeping the club running ever since. It’s clear to all those in the club that without a local brigade Mick would not have been rescued and we almost certainly wouldn’t have a club!!

You can learn more about Mick’s story HERE

You can learn more about the proposed closures HERE

Brinklow Football Club encourages you to support the local brigade and sign the petition to save Warwickshire's retained Fire Stations. Please sign the petition HERE or on Facebook HERE

A Message From Our Chairman
What a magnificent weekend both on and off the pitch!

Dealing with the football, I believe it has been our most successful home tournament for 13 years,

3 winning sides:
Under 15’s - Friday evening
Under 11’s - Saturday afternoon
Under 10’s - Sunday afternoon

3 runners up:
Under 16’s - Friday evening
Under 14’s - Sunday morning
Under 12 girls’ - Sunday afternoon

I am also aware in the ‘non competitive’ ages (8’s, 7’s and micros’) all of our teams performed very strongly and our teams in the other ages groups, played great football and in the Brinklow spirit.

Many other local clubs looked very enviously at our tournament, the organisational skills, the pattern & the flow of the tournament and the great atmosphere we are able to create. Not to mention the swarm of Scouts that turn up each year.

There may be bigger tournaments around but there is none better.

A huge thank you goes to the players and the parents & extended families, the organising committee, the band of volunteers who assist with everything from set up, car parking, litter picking, BBQ duties, bar staff, registration and score monitors, programme sellers pitch marking and final take down – If people don’t stand forward and volunteer it won’t be a success.

This year we trialled the micro’s along-side the 12’s & 14’s girls and under 10 boys on the Sunday afternoon. At one point we ran out of car-parking and the queue to get in was still halfway down Broad Street, there certainly was standing room only for a period!

All of the traders including the club run bar and BBQ have initially reported strong figures, final figures will be available over the next few weeks

At take-down there is always time for reflection on how the weekend has gone, its is always with a mixture of satisfaction, on how smoothly the tournament ran, tinged with a touch of sadness that it's all over, however as someone correctly pointed out to me on Monday morning at 9.00am only 362 days to go! Once again, well done to everyone, what a great club we are all part of and see you all at presentation night.

Yours sincerely,

Declan Mellett

Dates are 27/28th June and 4/5th July 09. Please remember all managers, assistant managers and coaches must hold at least FA level 1 within 12 months of being appointed. Anyone who wishes to attend please contact Rich Farthing as soon as possible.

FA level 1 Course To Be Run In Brinklow
Due to interest from some of the parents in our younger age groups I am pleased to say that the County FA have agreed to run an FA Level 1 in Brinklow.

This will mean that the coaches who need to refresh can attend during this course, which makes all things much easier.

I need to find 14 for the Level 1 course to take place and we may have to throw it open to some other clubs (Please contact Rich Farthing if you are not affiliated to Brinklow FC but wish to take this course).

The main advantage for us to run the course is that the cost will be at a reduced rate of £95, anyone who passes and stays with the club for 12 further months will receive a 50% refund of the fee.

Dates for the course :-
Sat 27th June and Sun 28th June 09 - Practical tuition on coaching
Sat 4th July and Sun 5th July 09 - Saturday will be 1st aid and child protection and Sunday will be final assessment.

Current coaches who need Level 1 are :-
Jim McCulloch
Andy Mayne
Chris Brain
Gary Coward
Nick Wash
Tony Glasscoe

Current coach who need to refresh Emergency aid ONLY :-
Geoff Bedford

Current coach who need to refresh Child Protection ONLY :-
Dave Wright

Current coaches who need to refresh both :-
Paul Huddlestone
Declan Mellet
John Halford
Janine Stothard
Paul Wilby
Kevin Cope
Bob Kearney

Simon Atherfold

To reserve a place on the course I need a £30 non-returnable deposit for Level 1 or £15 for refresher training. Cheques payable to Brinklow FC. I have to confirm with the FA by the end of March 09 so can you let me have some indication on whether you wish to attend asap.

Cheers
Rich Farthing

FA level 1 Certification
Brinklow FC requires that all Managers and their Assistants to hold at least a Level 1 Certificate in Football Coaching within 12 months of their appointment. I am currently updating the clubs records and helping those who need to attend a course with getting enrolled. If you hold a Level 1 or above you must attend an Emergency Aid and Child Protection workshop every 3 years to keep the qualification.

According to the records that I have the following need to attend these sessions in 2009 and I am in the process of arranging for the courses to be held in Brinklow. However we need at least 15 to attend and we are a few short. Likewise there are a number of coaches who will need to retrain in 2010 and we will be again short. A solution could be for some of those who need training in 2010 to attend this year, which would make things much easier.

The Child Protection cannot be done on line for the FA badges although some people are sent a pro-forma on a first refresher after your course. Anyone who has not attended a Child Protection workshop in 6 years must attend in person. The cost is £45 for both sessions.

Managers/Assistants who need to attend emergency aid and/or a child protection input to keep FA Coaching qualification BEFORE START OF 09-10 SEASON
PAUL HUDDLESTONE (FA Level 1 expired)

26th Jan 2009 UPDATED

Can all players pay any outstanding subs or fines to their Managers by Sunday 18th January.

Subscription Details 2008/2009
Details for the forthcoming season are as follows:-

Micro’s - £2 per week
Mini soccer (non-league) - £40
Mini soccer (league) -
£60
11-a-side league - £70
Seniors - £120

(minimum 50% subscriptions payable on registration with all outstanding fines and subs from previous year)

The increase in subscriptions is required, as the Club will face an increase in pitch hire charges due to the loss of the Revel Prison College facilities. The extra financial burden will fall onto the junior section of the club and therefore there is no increase in the senior fees, as pitch hire has already been provided for in their budget.

I Know it's Muddy But.......
The Parish Council have politely informed us that a number of complaints had been received regarding mud being left on Barr Lane following matches down there recently. For those that do play at Barr Lane, please can we make the effort to leave it as "mud free" as possible. Not easy at this time of year, but reminding players (Brinklow AND visitors) not to bang/clean their boots on the tarmac areas will help.
