Managers Reports For the Start of the Season
We were planning to issue the first edition of ON THE BRINK for this season however we have had some technical problems. So that we don't waste all the good words from the managers they have been posted here.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
its early days of the season, it's good to see all of our teams, boys, girls and seniors are progressing well in their respective leagues. Keep it up, enjoy playing football and I hope to see lots of smiling faces and hopefully some silverware at our presentation day in June. This season we are starting to have a number of fund raising/club events. For those who missed my ‘ Tom Cruise’ impression behind the bar at the race night you have not lived! Sorry if I under measured on the lager, the barrel was very lively! There has also been a bingo night recently organised by Martin and the Under 10’s parents. Please support these events, remember the funds for these events go directly back into the Club (and the bar staff don’t charge!) For details of forthcoming events please keep a watch out on our website. That’s it from me, enjoy the read, enjoy your football and have a great Christmas and a peaceful new year.Declan Mellett

U7's REPORT
The Brinklow under 7’s currently have 18 registered lads. The objectives for this season are to coach the boys basic football skills, teamwork, respect for the other players and enjoyment for the game. We still have our training sessions on a Saturday morning and are trying to fit in as many friendlies as we can. We continue to be impressed with the enthusiasm of the boys each week and the improvement in their ability. The lads have shown great potential in the friendly games so far and we are looking forward to entering them into a league next season. We are very grateful to “Whites of Coventry Ltd” who are our new kit sponsors. We are very pleased with our new kits.
I would like to thank Andy Gilbey and Phil Keeling who coach the boys each week, but also all the parents who have supported us with fund raising and training throughout the season, making my role somewhat easier.
The under 7’s squad: - Kye Gilbey, Harry Keeling, Alfie Jones, Liam Statters, Elliot White, Harvey Mellett, Lewis Draper, Charlie Andrew, Dillon Muslsher, Luke Connolly, Sam McBride, Kyle Ward, Finley Simms, Ellis Bray, Arron Colmer, Joshua Jackson, Harrison Berridge, Dominic O’Brian

U8's RED REPORT
Following on from last season, the Under 8s have matchday squad of 11 players (Sam B, Darragh, Finn, Derry, Reece, Sam P, Zach, Archie, Danny, William & Oscar) and compete in the John Bryan Freindly League. There are twins Scott & Luke who are also training with the squad. The management team of Martin & Austin are regulary supported at training and on matchdays by Nathan Smith. Initially we were placed in the Godiva League which contains the top level teams from the Coventry area. Having played a few of these teams previously we were expecting tough games and unfortunately we weren't to be dissappointed. Our first game was against Chaplefield Colts which was very close leading to a late goal to confirm a narow defeat. We subsequently played Coundon Court, Copsewood, Coventry Jaguar and Coventry Sphinx. Most of these teams had played in this league previously as Under 7s and it was fair to say that these teams were too strong for Brinklow leading to big defeats. What made the situation worse was there was a lack of regular goalkeeper during these games. Despite this, the lad's spirits didn't seem to drop and we managed to score 3 goals in these games.
Our final game in the Godiva League was agains Christ the King, a team who had beaten us heavily the previous season. A top quality committed performance from Brinklow saw us win our first game of the season, a well deserved win and a much needed confidence boost. There was a a two week break from games as Austin completed his FA coaching badge. During half-term 10 of the squad attended the Brinklow Soccer Camp and we believe we saw the benefits in the November games.
Having trained at Barr Lane and then at Ryton we have settle at the Wolston Leisure Centre with its top quality G3 flootlit facility as our preferred training location. The location for our home games is Newbold Revel which is a top quality playing surface.
We left the Godiva League and joined the Starley League. It was hoped that this lead to more even competitive games. We played GNP Lions twice in successive weeks winning both games and playing good passing football. The highlight of the season being Finn's individual goal where he ran the length of the pitch beating many players before scoring calmly. Also Sam Berrey had one of those Match of the Day moments where he scored with his first touch having come on as substitute.
Our 3 game winning run ended with a highly entertaining draw against Copsewood Blue, another team who had beaten us heavily the previous season, further evidence of the continuing improvement by the team. Our final game in November was against Coventry Saracens where we were level going into injury time but managed to lose right at the end. Finn is our top goal scorer with 5 goals, not bad for a midfielder. I hope the parents can see despite the tough start that the team has improved, is playing football in the right way and is a more competitive team.
Regards

U9's BLUE REPORT
Where Are The Tights? The Colts have kicked off the new season in the strange and untested area of the Mid Warwickshire U9 Football League. We have travelled far and wide in the last couple of months and have found this new league both challenging and rewarding. The Colts have in the main played well – omitting the Long Lawford incident, when I could have invited the local constabulary in and completed a witness statement entitled “ how we were robbed” and at the time of writing find themself in a mid- table position.
They say the table doesn’t lie, so our current position is a fair reflection of the season so far. Early season form was hard to find following changes in the line up- we lost three early games on the bounce, having said that, these were against teams who currently sit on top of the pile, with the two Kenilworth teams providing stiff opposition. Goals…. well they were also hard to come by in those early weeks as the Colts struggled to convert and suffered as a consequence. However come November and following the half term break
- the green shoots of recovery began to emerge, unlike the Eurozone the boys rallied and raised their game putting together an impressive string of results. Goals, which had been so difficult to find, came in abundance as the Colts grew in confidence and began to assert themselves. Now this was more like it!
What is also evident is that the Colts are developing and maturing as footballers, a couple of the lads seem to have grown shoulders over the summer and have a greater physical presence on the pitch. For me Thomas Hood and Josh Park have had particularly impressive starts - Tommy H providing stability at the back, and Josh demonstrating strength in the centre and making an impressive contribution in terms of goals. Thomas Hale is a welcome new acquisition to the team - in recent games he has found his scoring boots and is growing in confidence on a weekly basis - welcome Thomas. As ever with the Colts, all the boys have made individual contributions, and the team are developing nicely, which bodes well for the coming fixtures.
The thing that stays with me during this opening quarter, is that win or lose or draw, playing team football at this age, gives the boys some lasting skills. The sense of teamwork, discipline, respect and work ethic are surely values that we all want our boys to demonstrate? Oh yes and having a competitive edge never did anybody any harm!
So, with this extended run of mild weather that has us all confused - We are still awaiting the debut of Declan’s tasteful black tights this season, and Paul has continued to top up his perma-tan as we have basked in the late Autumn sunshine. The Colts have got their season back on track and we are all looking forward to the next couple of months to see what new challenges we face and hopefully some good times to celebrate. Well played boys!
Regards

U10's REPORT
Season So Far - After the success the boys had last season and deservedly so, this was always going to be a tough campaign. It has proved just that, the boys already tasting more defeats, than the whole of the last campaign to date, albeit only two, it has left the boys with the task of playing catch up on the leagues leaders. In some respects the losses, although no one likes them, has probably served a blessing in disguise as, the shackles have been thrown off, with the boys playing some of their best football. As last season the boys started slowly but this time the results never went their way but now we are nearly at the half way stage of the league the boys are now showing what a fantastic team they are and are building momentum which hopefully will keep going. Losing to Massey Ferguson 3-2 in the opening game was not the best start but deserved better. A 6-0 defeat of local Binley Woods in the cup was followed by a narrow 1-0 win over Coundon Court. A second loss 2-0 at Chetwynd was probably the worst display I've seen from the boys but bounced back to record a 2-1 win over Stratford Town where the score didn’t do us any justice. Last season’s runner up Leamington Hibs visited and left with disappointed after a sterling comeback ensured a 2-1 victory. A convincing 7-0 win over Christ the King after half term was a good confidence boost as we headed to Hibs in the next round of the cup and a 1-0 scoreline, earned Brinklow the win. Back to league action and a brilliant display of football inflicted a 5-1 defeat on Cov Copsewood. So things don’t look as bad as they did after the first three games and with the mood in the camp rising, we are back in the race!Goalscorers:

U11's REPORT
Not my words but a fair and very positive reflexion of the Brinklow U11. - Scott Craig
A Parents Perspective
Our son Oliver joined Brinklow Junior FC under 10’s towards the end of last season having previously played in the Warwickshire league. From that very first training session I knew joining Brinklow had been the right decision as the training was not only very well structured but full of enthusiasm from the coaches and the players. In addition, we found the other parents, grandparents and other family members were friendly, welcoming and best of all shared our enthusiasm for the boys’ football. The summer saw us ‘runners up’ in two ‘six a side’ tournaments and as the new season crept upon us Scott Craig the Manager worked hard organising a number of 11 a side friendly games to warm us up for the season ahead!
Now, it would have been easy at this stage to have entered the new 2011/12 season in the B Division of the John Bryan League, however knowing it would be a challenge and with a few difficult decisions to make, the manager and coaches decided to remain in the A Division, quietly confident that we could be competitive at that level. We were pleased with this decision knowing that our son would be playing against some of the highest standard football in the area. Despite the enthusiasm, the season started disappointingly, seeing us beaten in our first three games, as we struggled to find the form we knew the players were capable of, and the football that they had been displaying during training.
After continued dedication from not only manager and coaches but also parents and players, came the simple passing football game that we knew they were capable of, which gained the lads their first win against Coventry Copswood Junior. This continued to ‘in our opinion’ the highlight of the season thus far by a draw at Coventry Sphinx, who had beaten us in a previous game 5-0. Furthermore, a difficult win last week saw us through to the 3rd round of the cup. Let’s hope the players rise to the challenge of the season and continue to improve on their game, so that Manager, Coaches and Players are rewarded with the wins that we feel they deserve.

Blues News - Firstly i would to say a big thanks from the whole team to Nick Forman of NF-X for sponsoring the kit this season and next.
The blues have had a bit of a bad start to the season with 4 players leaving virtually just before K.O! Ben Mulley has emergrated to the states so we wish him and his family all the best over there. Jake has left to play for a team over in Lutterworth, Anthony took up boxing. Also Teddy had a bad injury so he was out for the 1st six games, so that meant we were playing games with only 10 or 11 players.
The lads played well enough in those 1st few games and in a couple of them they were 3 or 4 goals up! But with no subs the lads just ran out of energy eventually loosing those games by a single goal.
Better news now is that Anthony is back playing for the team, Teddy is back from his injury and we have signed on 3 new players, Daniel, Harry C, and Jamal who are all fitting in well, so hopefully now the results will start to improve.

U14's REPORT
Our first season in the B league, if we could match our cup performances to our league performance we surely we would be in the playoff positions. We seem to dominate games then get undone by either long balls down the middle or a lapse of concentration. Against Santos I am reliably informed we had 19 shots on target, converted 2, Santos had three and converted them all. But that’s football. We are playing good football and I am confident the results will come.A big welcome to Conah Langham and Alex Lovelock to our team, plus the prodigal son has returned – Mr Kemp, a bit more robust then when he left us for Hilmorton, but still smiling and has added a bit of ‘je nas se qua’. Talking of ‘je nas se qua’ in the true sense of the phrase, Tom Hawthornewaite has also returned and has claimed his right back spot back with finesse.
Sponsorship - Thank you to Roger (again) for sponsoring the new kit. I think its one of the best ones we have ever had. There was a point of thought when I was ordering. Having order the kit when we first set out, and there are still 4 or 5 boys with us from those under 6 days, some of the sizes were scary, there were to large men sizes, a couple of medium then the rest small mens. Where have the years gone.
Christmas Outing - Over the next couple of weeks we will sort out our annual Christmas outing, it will be either at the Ricoh, if I can get some cheap tickets or at the Ice hockey. I will let you know the dates / time as soon as its all booked up.
Training will resume on Jan 6th at 7pm in Wolston at the Leisure Centre

U15's REPORT
A big welcome for this season for three new players, Tom, Chay and Josh Dennis who I’m sure will prove to be a big asset to the team. The season hasn’t started well with only four points from the first eight league games and an exit in the first round of the cup. The lads are playing good football but only for short periods of the game. We have discussed how we want to play this season but as of yet we haven’t really adhered to this approach. We need to be more consistent with our work ethic and our desire to get the ball on the floor and pass it around rather than the ineffective ‘hot potato’ method and this needs to start with training sessions. We can see that the potential is there but we have to continue to work hard to make it happen.
A few games stand out more than others and it is these that I’ll concentrate on. The first was the narrow 1-0 defeat in the cup against Peugeot Citroen that came only a week after a 9-1 defeat away to the same team in the league. The contrast in this performance in virtually every aspect was apparent for all to see. With a squad of sixteen players we had the bare eleven so there were obviously a few concerns before the match. Every player gave absolutely everything and the quality of football was certainly a move in the right direction. From a biased perspective I feel that we outfought and outplayed Peugeot for the majority of the match and had enough chances to win the game. Had the penalty in the first half been converted then who knows what might have happened. It is this desire that needs to be replicated in every game to ensure we get the results we want.
The second focussed match was the away game against Leek Wootton where the lads earned their first point of the season in a closely fought encounter with a draw probably being the correct result. Brinklow were ahead twice with both goals scored by Tom on his debut only for Leek Wootton to equalise on both occasions. Once again the effort for the entire match was fantastic and the quality of the football was encouraging.
Featured match number three brought our first victory albeit against the only team below us in the league. The work rate was much improved and the football a little better if not a little hurried at times. What was pleasing was the togetherness of the defence for the majority of the match. Ironically, it was a scuffed shot from Josh Brown that broke the deadlock and this was quickly followed by the first of Tom’s three goals of the day. Dan was again confident and loud in goal whilst Jordan was outstanding in an unusual role for him in central defence. Tom’s hat-trick was a joy to watch especially the headed second following a George cross.
The final reported match was the 3-2 defeat away to Hawksmill after being 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go. We completely outplayed them and deserved to win. Had the numerous chances we created gone in (I particularly remember the thunderous shot by Chay that hit the woodwork) we could have been out of sight by half-time. Defeat is never pleasant but we gave everything in this game and the results will come if we have this attitude.
On the flip side there have been several games where several of the players just didn’t appear interested and we got the defeats we deserved. Injuries, illnesses and other commitments have certainly had an effect so far but I suppose this is the same for all teams. Keep working hard and listening and we will get there.
Thanks to John Cross in making the pitch look fantastic, to Bolty in obtaining a pair of full sized goals for free and to Andy and Rotatech Ltd (Spindle Rebuild & Repair) for sponsoring the team this season and providing an impressive looking new set of kit.

U18's GIRLS REPORT
Brinklow 1 Erdington 1
Prior to the start of this game there were high expectations of a home win. Brinklow had narrowly lost away to Erdington earlier in the season and it was believed that revenge could be gained. Hopes of a Brinklow victory were buoyed after ten minutes when they were awarded a penalty which was converted by Holly Craddock. Any hopes of adding to this lead were quickly dashed by an Erdington equaliser some ten minutes later. The game soon descended into a deadlock with both defences effectively snuffing out any chances of a goal. It became obvious that if any team were to win it would be the odd goal provided by a moment of magic or good fortune. Brinklow’s best chance to win the game came with five minutes to go when Emma Myatt sent a blistering shot just over the bar. A draw against Erdington is always a satisfactory result. In this instance a draw put an end to a run of defeats but it was disappointing not to come away with all three pointsCookley Sports 0 Brinklow 2
Brinklow did not view this game with relish. A 120 mile round-trip to the wilds of Worcestershire to face a side who were undefeated this season. Shortly after the kick-off it became apparent the old Brinklow fighting spirit had been hauled out of its box, dusted off and was very much on display. The first forty five minutes saw Brinklow kicking up a considerable slope but nevertheless managing to mount a number of well-crafted attacks as well as stifle Cookley’s efforts for a goal. Thanks to the defensive prowess of Georgia Clarke and Nicole Maunder in her new sweeper role the score remained nil-nil at the interval. Brinklow were able to take full advantage of the slope in the second half with goals from Emma Myatt and Hollie Craddock firing them into what proved to be an unassailable lead. A few nervous moments were experience in the final minutes of the game when Cookley threw the kitchen sink at Brinklow. Fortunately player-of-the match Danni Beck pulled off a string of last ditch saves to deny Cookley and ensure her team ran out winners. This, without doubt, was Brinklow’s performance of the season so far. It must have sent out a clear warning to the rest of the league Brinklow are going to be making an all out effort to win every game.Stratford Town 1 Brinklow 8
Brinklow’s march up the league continued with their second consecutive away win. An injury to Harriet Lowe and Georgia Clarke being unavailable meant a less than full strength Brinklow squad being available for this game. Any worries quickly evaporated after five minutes when goal machine Emma Myatt fired Brinklow into an early lead. After this the goals just kept coming with another from the deadly finish from Ms Myatt. Lauren Robinson added to the score with a long range screamer and the ever dangerous Hollie Craddock cracked in two more goals. At half-time Brinklow sat on a comfortable 5-1 lead. The second half saw Brinklow playing into the wind which although limited their attacks didn’t stop Brinklow adding to their lead. Player-of-the match, Emma Myatt managed to complete her hat-trick, Chelsea Smith also found the net and Bess Barnham hit her first goal for the club. Throughout the game Brinklow’s defence was solidly marshalled by the ever reliable Bex Wilby. Fifteen year old defender Nicole Maunder, the youngest player on the pitch, showed wisdom and ability beyond her years to reduce the number of Stratford’s goal chances to a minimum. Brinklow are really beginning to look like a class outfit.

*****URGENT*****Brinklow FC NEED A NEW TREASURER!!*****URGENT*****
The Management Committee are looking for a person to become the new Club Treasurer. The position is currently held by Rucky Griffith who will be moving abroad in the near future. The role is a very important function of the football club and it is not a position that can be left vacant. As a result the Committee would like any person who may be interested in becoming the Treasurer to express their interest as soon as possible.
Rucky has agreed to help with the hand over process and I know that whoever takes on the position will receive a considerable amount of support and will be taking over a very well established function that is now quite straight forward.
Job description of the Treasurer
• Inputting the incomings and expenses onto the sage programme (self explanatory)

Training at the VS Rugby Astroturf
The Strachan Football Foundation have offered Brinklow Football Club the option to train on the VS Rugby astroturf facility at a greatly reduced rate. On Tuesday or Wednesday evenings between 5pm and 6pm, a one hour session for juniors (Micro/U7 to U16) on the floodlit astroturf will cost just £15.In addition to this being a very favorable price, the SFF will provide up to 2 coaches to either support or even take charge of the coaching session if required. One of these coaches would be Tommy Glasscoe who is the SFF representative for Brinklow FC in the 2011/12 season.
This may be an early slot, but it is a great price considering the astro pitch itself is normally around £30 per hour, and if necessary managers can brief Tommy beforehand and leave him to take the entire session with an SFF colleague. It could even be an additional session if anybody wants or needs that.
Anyone interested please contact Tommy Glasscoe on 07825 992134 or Send Mail

Micro's Coach Urgently Needed
This is a plea on behalf of the Micro’s Section. Unfortunately Rich Farthing is unable to continue with taking training sessions on Saturday mornings. Dale Huddlestone has been helping out but it is not possible for him to be there every Saturday. We are urgently seeking a coach to step in and take over the training between 10.00 am and 11.00am, if anyone is interested or thinks they know of somebody who would be please contact Rich as soon as possible.

Chairman’s Report Season 2010/2011
The third year of my tenure as Chairman of Brinklow Football Club has certainly been a busy one, both on and off the pitch.
On the Pitch
Notable success for our Senior and Under 9 sections. Not only winning trophies but also the manner in which they play football. Congratulations to Paul, Tony, Marie, Bob and all involved with the Senior Set up.
Congratulations to Wayne, our first ever boys ‘A’ league champions.
Praise must also go to the youngest section of the club, a special thank you to Rich, Nick, Dale and Jack who have not only rescued the micro section at the start of last season but have now set up a strong infrastructure at the start of the club for all new entrants. It was great to see an under 7 team and micro team competing so well in this years tournament (especially the keeper in the Micros).
Our girls section continues to grow, with teams entering leagues next season at Under 13 and Under 17 with renewed discussions regarding creating a ladies team for next season.
With evidence of the Under 9’s we can all see our mini soccer set up is strong and flourishing, along with the top end of the club with 16’s boys, youth and senior section all working under the newly created sub section, Vice Chair Seniors / First Team manager structure. However the mid boys section, u11 through till u16 have struggled in their respective A leagues. Four of the six teams in this section played their football in the A league this season. All four of these teams finished in the bottom two of their respective leagues. At the last committee meeting we discussed this topic. We need to look at reviewing our strategy for encouraging coaches to go further with FA Level training or equivalent. A club our size should have more than two Level 2 coaches. We were one of the first clubs to adopt the FA level 1 course for our coaches, 4/5 years ago therefore I believe we need a review this situation so we can plan to get ahead of the curve again. With this in mind I have asked Dale, our Head Coach to look at this matter in more depth and devise a proposal that can be put in place for the next three years. Its also important to remind ourselves, its not just about winning. We are a football club that strives to provide football at what ever level of ability. Our 250 members, plus a number in the over 35’s, I can confidently confirm we are providing a platform for playing football for all and will continue to do so.
Team Objectives
Each year I ask the team managers to set a seasonal objective I attach a copy here, some of our teams have achieved their goals to the letter, others unfortunately didn’t but it wasn’t for the want of trying.Off the Pitch
It has been a very busy season off pitch this year. As the club grows, the numbers of members grow and consequently the number of issues increases. I believe as your chairman each incident we have been involved with this season has been dealt fairly and without bias. It is impossible to please all people all of the time especially when it comes down to selection of players. We try to where we can ensure best practice is followed.
Our tournament, what hasn’t been said already about our tournament. Our 15th year, again blessed with sunshine and it seems to get better and better each year. Highly regarded by our peers. Thank you for all the work put in by the organising committee and to all the helpers before, during and afterwards.
Our presentation day, again a great success, a real professional show piece for our club. Thank you to all the helpers for this event.
I would also like to thank all the managers and manager’s assistants, for all your hard work throughout the season. Thank you to all the committee members. An extremely hard working bunch of people without their help this club wouldn’t run half as efficiently as it does. And of course thank you to all the players and their parents for being part of this club.On a final note, without getting too deep, I sometimes get asked why we do it. As a parent of a players, a manager of a team (or 2), as the chairman there are three defining moments this season for me to why I or we do it
As a parent, watching Harvey as a goal keeper in the micro’s during the tournament.
As a manager, the agony of the u13 suffering in the A league and plotting a comeback
As Chairman, the night in Bedworth, watching all our fans singing, chanting and spraying champagne over themselves and a few othersMore than a club, a way of life
I submit this report to the meeting
Yours in Sport

Dani in 2004 playing for BrinklowCongratulations to Daniella Francioso who has now been selected for the England u15's girls squad to play Scotland on April 23rd. Frank (Daniella's father) had these kind words to say when he emailed us before the trial:-
"Who would have thought that her pulling on that Brinklow GK shirt all those years ago would have led to her having so many great football moments. I'm just so glad that Brinklow has such a great Football Club, which set her on this fantastic road of football, a big thank you to all of you who help run it, give up your time and coach the teams, long may The Club carry on. All the best, from a very proud Dad."

We have the privilege to announce that Shaw Sheet Metal are now the main sponsor of the Under 12's Girls Football team. Thanks to our club photographer Steve Hyde from i4photos.co.uk for providing the image.
A little bit about the company: As the premier precision CNC sheet metalwork company in Rugby, Mr Philip Shaw founded the business in 1990 and now employs some 25 people. The service they offer usually begins at the product design stage where they will work in partnership with the customer to establish the best design and materials to meet usage and budget requirements. It may be followed by a prototype and testing phase prior to full production. They currently manufacture and supply goods to the Aerospace & Defence industry.
Mr Shaw said, " it's fanatastic to see Brinklow FC puting so much passion and energy in to grass roots girls foolball, and I happy to support the team & club in their efforts". He went on to wish the team every success for the comming season.

Doug Docker Wins
Clubman of the Year Award
Congratulations to Doug Docker who was presented as the Brinklow Clubman of the Year for 2010. Doug was presented with his award at last nights AGM.
Presenting the award are Debbie & Hollie together with our Club chairman Declan Mellett. The award is presented in memory of Steve Weller.
Thanks to our club photographer Steve Hyde for providing the image.
Some words of praise regarding Doug:-
'The grandfather of one of the boys in U13 Doug Docker runs the T/Coffee stand at the home matches and puts all the monies towards the team. He also has hot sausage rolls, mince pies and chocolate biscuits which are given out to the team at the end of the match. He turns up to every game and helps with the ground upkeep and all items to do with the game and club. He is what I would call a true and loyal member of the club and gives his all.'
